The Hellenic Astronomical Association is one of the oldest and leading amateur astronomical societies in Greece and whose roots
date back to 1993. Members meet monthly during the winter at Pendeli Observatory in northern Athens whereas summer meetings
are accomplished via excursions to dark sites within a short driving distance of Athens. The meetings at Pendeli Observatory
are used to provide group members with an update on current events; to present the "Constellation of the Month"; to showcase
member efforts in relation to specific projects and results; to coordinate the promotion of amateur astronomy to the general
public; to assist whenever possible with the bi-annual national conference on amateur astronomy and a wide variety of other
events and activities.
With over 150 currently active members, all facets of amateur astronomy are of interest to the membership and include
astrophotography, ATM, observation of the deep sky, photometry, occultation timing, special events and excursions (ex. solar
eclipses to foreign countries), the history of astronomy and and other related subjects of interest. On occasion, we are
fortunate to have guest lectures from members of the local professional astronomical community. Equipment owned by members
includes a wide variety of telescopes (apochromatic refractors, large and small dobsonians, Newtonians, Maksutovs) and
cameras (CCD, DSLR, webcams).
Anyone with an interest and a fascination for the overhead sky is strongly encouraged to come in contact with us and/or
attend one of our monthly meetings either at Pendeli Observatory or atop one of the local mountains providing breathtaking
views.
